Same Place
01:40
|
|||
We were just two kids
lying on a pile of leaves
under a twisted maple
hands gripping red foliage
A man came and killed us
under the park pavilion
ripped a hole right through us
ripped a hole then flew off
Back then we weren't ashamed
of the thoughts we had
In fact we were proud
We spoke them all out loud
of ships to Malta
flying machines
cancer-repairing powers
fragrant, eternal flowers
Now I'm muted for hours
Now I'm muted for days
I have no one to talk to
Are you in the same place?

Brittle Bones
03:34
|
|||
Wait and watch
the carriage crush
my brittle bones
You waited for
the lighted door
some galavanting rube
And so I waited too
a noble, silent fool
to be nothing
to anyone
and for no one to know where I am
I've been standing on a cliff
for so long now
denigrating my mistakes
blinded to my gold
While you, you languish in place
hollow in your little cage
I've seen the traps that you laid
so wallow in your little cage
Watch me rise
Watch me climb
out of the mire

Chameleon
04:39
|
|||
They have charmed you
the ones I abhor
Overtaken seasons of my life now
Fortune seekers
who fade when the nectar's dry
thieves of every ray you aim to welcome
Reinvent again
to never know yourself
The sharp chameleons
conspire for the kill
They have charmed you
so now you adore
all that seeks to numb you latches on now
Feeble half lives
archived in a blue-screen void
posturers who starve without the chorus beaming
Reinvent again
to never know yourself
The sharp chameleons
will conspire for the kill
What does it take to reach you?
What does it take to move you?
Out of the masquerade
Contend with the cold, imperfect air
or stay in your antiseptic tomb
Your remote decline
wasting, falling through
Brought to a Manet meadow
you wince at the perfect weeds
Alone at a silent table
you tremble while you breathe
An amnesia placebo
will never rescue you
out of the past.

High Street
04:54
|
|||
High street incites
a momentary lapse of mind
so I look away
My years of need
hovering like icicles
from a belfry wall
In place of me
a simulacrum hollowed out
strolling, weathered shell
a roving fear
just to lose or fall again
all my stolen peace
I won't waste inside
or splinter under indifferent cosmic might
Hierophany: I find it in the unloved detritus
I'm inclined either way
to labor quietly while it rains
then I display
when I need something
to keep me going
I unfurl the parchment
release the locusts
Don't try to push me backwards
in any way
I move in amoebic rapture
inside the grain
I always find another way out.

Ruby
04:30
|
|||
Sand-sculpted ruby you are
on the countertop of a crowded bar
populated by flies
with 20/600 vision in both eyes
They can't see you
the way you produce and reflect light
They can't know what
damning pressure produced you
We're just the bugs
conscientious and proud
moving with grace
through the fields and plows
A kid with a rock
wants to straighten you out
but I move myself over your body
My feeble shelter
the gesture itself is what matters
When the caustic nightmare
moves with gravity's helping
So don't wait
until you're whole again
In your moments of grace
you regenerate
You're the one that shines
No witnesses required
Your dignity is their venom
and it's my anodyne
Each joy is entirely yours
Sprung from the clay
deprived of water
you'll make it farther

Anodyne
03:29
|
|||
We're not a pile of stubborn vices
and I have no pride worth saving
When I'm risking death
through lifelessness
I would welcome
humiliation
At least it's something
I glued the egg shells
avoided every patch of ice
I levitated
for you to see
Above the trade winds
behold your tired scribe
lost on the periphery
Your anodyne
You could have had me
in the garden then
I was a mantis
in your palm all night
I don't despise you
you tyrant thing
Is there something that I could do?
Do not wander through the empty spire
with intimations of suicide
Stay beside me by the open fire
Smoke from embers floods our weary eyes

Take it Away
04:13
|
|||
I meant to see you fly and flourish
I never meant to see you burn
So take me away
Your light hesitates
In a gallery of masks
you choose the one that shades your wounds
I'll take you away
my light resonates
I'd rather risk pure
than ever calcify
Effervescent life
You couldn't kill it if you tried
I was wading in a black pond
underneath the moon
I feel asleep
My fingers pruned
I woke to voices
in the stirring weeds
of both me and you
You heard my notes
I was entombed
but now I'm awake
restored to grace
So are you, unexhumed
Say you'll never lie
fused into this fragile truth
I'd rather risk pure
than ever calcify
Effervescent life
You couldn't kill it if you tried
I could just erase you
That's what everybody does
but that suggests that you meant nothing to me
And when I feel two things at once
such as paralyzing pain
and the conviction that I care for you for life
While our souls collide
our souls align
our souls entwine
Out of the light, I couldn't leave you
out of the light

Wayfarers
02:20
|
|||
I was not the right one for anyone
So I was sequestered
like a powder keg dampened
in the chamber, where mold was grass
I was wine in an oil vat
Sanctuary somewhere
a novella spared from the Säuberung
So why fight it?
I know I'm going to be there
no longer
Too tired of despair
Nepotrebujem pomoc from demons
I prefer my patchwork pantheon
Dancing in the gutted pews with the
motley wayfarers
